I understand that feeling. I miss the cleaner air in the old days and the big department stores that felt like a paradise whenever I went inside.

while at the same time, I think we should treasure what we have today. Becoz another 20 years from now, we'll miss today's shops, cars, toys, places & ppl, etc and talk about them on oldcake forum in a nostalgic way

Re. mainlanders, I think we used to have many advantages over them due to our better connection with the rest of the world, and our willingness to study hard & work hard. Now it's a very different story. Lots of young (and old) ppl in HK are nothing compared to their mainland counterparts, in fact many mainlanders are better at languages (English and Chinese), work harder, and are much more eager to learn. Just go to Shenzhen "Book City" and you see tons of young ppl reading technical books or even taking notes, while our kids are doing drugs, online games and taking nude photos of themselves. We should simply accept defeat if we cannot upgrade ourselves. And w/o those big spenders from mainland, I think many HK businesses will have a tough time surviving. Things have changed and we cannot have the same mentality as if still in the 80's.
