Guest article by Rob Maxwell

Of the six Sailor Senshi actresses, five remain active. Hama Chisaki (浜¤d咲 - Sailor Mercury) became unemployed when her teen fashion magazine job with ¡umelon¡v went away with its cancellation. Not long afterward, her official website announced she would be taking a break for both health reasons and to prepare for college entrance exams. That was in February 2006. This, combined with a lack of updates to her website, leads most people well familiar with the Idol industry to believe she has retired. By now, Izumi Rika, her real name, would be finishing her first year of college.

Sawai Miyuu (沢¤«¬üÀu - Sailor Moon) is continuing to do the occasional Idol video with ¡uFresh : Re : Fresh ¡vbeing her most recent. In between videos, she has done a little acting work, including a role in a horror movie, a part in a play, and voice work in the Black Cat anime and the Fullmetal Alchemist movie. She has "graduated" from her job as a model for the teen fashion magazine ¡uラブベリー¡v(Love Berry).

Kitagawa Keiko (¥_¤t´º¤l - Sailor Mars) "graduated" from the teen fashion magazine ¡uSEVENTEEN (Japan)¡v last year. After PGSM, she began working in the movie industry, appearing in 7 movies, including her first starring role in ¡uDear Friends¡vwhich come to Japanese theaters this past February.

Azama "Mew" Myuu (¦w®y¶¡¬üÀu - Sailor Jupiter) continues to work in the fashion industry after winning the 38th non-no Modeling Grand Prix last year, which earned her a promotion to ¡unon-no¡vwhich is a college-aged fashion magazine, from ¡uSEVENTEEN (Japan)¡vfrom which she retired at the end of last year.

Komatsu Ayaka (¤pªQ±m®L - Sailor Venus/Sailor V) continues her Idol work with the occasional Idol DVD or photobook in between appearing in television shows. She has appeared in a pair of Japanese The Fast and the Furious clone movies. Her latest DVD was released this past January while her somewhat scandalous and most recent Photobook ¡uMoon Doll¡vwas released in February 2006.

Koike Rina (¤p¦À¨½©` - Sailor Luna), now 13 years old, is following in Ayaka's footsteps as both a TV star and a blossoming Idol after a good Jr. Idol career. Beginning over the winter, she has appeared in nearly 30 Idol magazine issues, including the covers of the Jr. Idol magazine ¡uピュアピュア¡v(Pure Pure) and the Idol magazine ¡uChu¡÷Boh¡vboth released recently, ahead of the April debut of her regular role on a new Japanese TV drama.

More detailed information, including some of the covers they appeared on, is part of the new update to the Genvid sub-site Living the Sailor Dream.

From Jay: Many thanks to our good friend Rob Maxwell for this write-up!

Sawai Miyuu had appeared in numerous idol magazines and a pair of solo idol DVDs prior to being selected as Tsukino Usagi (Sailor Moon). The magazines include the usual Jr. Idol ones including Pure Pure, BOMB, and memew. These idol magazines often come with inserts, including trading cards, of which, Sawai has appeared on a few of them.

The solo videos¡uME¡v&¡uYOU¡vare available in a boxset for 7600 yen (about US$63). They were originally released in September of 2002 as both single DVDs (3800 yen [about US$32] each) and cheaper videos (2900 yen [about US$24] each).

Although, she was featured in an issue of BOMB Idol magazine (Nov 03) with Kitagawa, and later in Sabra, she signed an exclusive modeling contract with Tokuma's Love Berry magazine.

On April 1st, 2005, Sawai released a new Idol DVD called "South Wind" as part of the Young Champion¡uヤングチャンピオン¡vDVD series. This followed her "Asian Kiss" solo Idol DVD from earlier in 2005 which also had a separate Photobook of the same name. She also released "Perfect Collection" and "me¡÷you" later in 2005. Early 2006, she released "Snow White" and just months ago, at 2006's year's end, her latest Idol DVD "Fresh : Re : Fresh" was released.

In between DVDs, she has done voice acting (an episode of the "Black Cat" anime and the "Fullmetal Alchemist" movie), has appeared in a play with Matsushita Moeco (her PGSM love rival), and had a role in the Japanese horror movie "Chain 2".

浜¤d咲 ¡P Hama Chisaki

Hama Chisaki started her Idol career with an appearance in BOMB! and a exclusive modeling contract with "melon" magazine. She now appears regularly in "melon" as of the July 2003 issue. The magazine ceased publication in late 2005.

Prior to this, she appeared in the Jr. Idol magazine "Pure Pure" [Pure²] issues 17-19, although I believe issue 18 only has a brief mention of her amongst many other Jr. Idols.

Her earliest appearances seem to be in a magazine called "Monthly De-View", during Winter 2002-3. Other early appearances are in "pichi lemon" (Summer 03) and something called "for lilie" in the April 03 issue.

Her only TV work prior to Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, was an Idol special on Sky PerfecTV Japan that translates as "Being Junior, GO!".

Some of her works, released in November 2003, include being one of the three senshi actresses in BOMB! [11/03] with Sawai Miyuu and Kitagawa Keiko; an appearance in UP-TO-BOY [11/03]; and her fifth straight appearance in melon [11/03].

During February 2006, she announced on her website that she would be taking a break from her career for health reasons and to prepare for college entrance exams. This came shortly after "melon", her regular job, ceased publication. The combination of these two events leads most people familiar with the Idol industry to believe she is retired and she has not been heard from in the last year except for occasional reunions with her fellow PGSM cast members.

Her real name is Izumi Rika. However, there was already another Idol with the same name and worse, just "Rika" produces thousands of hits on Google and Yahoo! for a member of the Idol super-group Morning Musume.

Kitagawa Keiko was signed to an exclusive modeling contract with Japan's SEVENTEEN magazine after being one of the winners of the 2003 audition. She made her SEVENTEEN debut with a 7 page feature at the front of the Nov 01, 2003 [#25] issue.

Kitagawa made regular appearances in SEVENTEEN magazine until her retirement from modeling in mid-2006. She followed up her debut in issue #25 (2003) and has continued to appear every two weeks since then.

Jumping on the bandwagon, BOMB magazine uncovered in their archive an unused Kitagawa layout and used it in the November 2003 issue.

Kitagawa signed on in 2005 to co-star in a live action movie "Mizu ni sumu hana" ¡u ¤ôに´Ïむªá¡vbased on the manga of the same name. This would be the start of her movie acting career that is now up to 7 films including the Hollywood made "The Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift" and her first starring role in a major Japanese release in ¡u Dear Friends¡v.

Komatsu Ayaka was part of the CANDy fashion magazine stable of models. Her work there led to some small TV and movie work including "Idol-Do". She appeared in the Winter 02/03 "Angel Blue" fashion catalog, as well. All of this preceded her selection as Sailor Venus.

She did a few controversial swimsuit layouts prior to being selected as one of the four girls for the 2004 edition of Nittelegenic ¡u¤éテレジュニック 2004¡v, an annual group of four girls who help promote various items. As part of her involvement with Nittelegenic, a solo Idol DVD of her ¡u¤éテレジェニック2004 ¤pªQ±m®L figure A¡v was released August 24th of 2004. The other three girls had their own DVDs released on the same day. Another Nittelegenic 2004 solo DVD¡u¤k¯«のChu! ¤éテレジェニック2004 ¤pªQ±m®L Layer Game¡v[Megami no Chu!] was released on 26 January 2005.

She was featured on the cover of the manga Young Sunday¡uヤングサンデー¡vwith a seven page layout inside. The issue number was 17 [4/7/2005]. She would follow this up with her third photobook ¡uSummer Date¡vand her 3rd DVD (and first true solo Idol DVD)¡u まさか・・・ ¡v[masaka...]. From there, she would focus on her acting career.

She co-starred in the ¡u ドリフト ¡vand¡u ドリフト 2 ¡v[Drift and Drift 2] street racing movies similar to Kitagawa Keiko's The Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift before starring in the 2006 TV series¡uダンドリ®Q¡v[Dandori Musume]. While working on these, she released her most recent photobook Young Sunday's¡uMoon Doll¡vin February 2006 in which she appears with her bikini top off, however her "upper assets" are not fully exposed.

Over the winter of 2006, she went on a major promotional blitz, posing in 20 magazines, ahead of the January 2007 release of her latest DVD ¡u®Ñを±Ëてよ¡B¤ô着になろう!¡v[Sho wo Suteyo, Mizugi ni Naro].

Her biography shows an appearance in the Japanese movie ¡uä\る¤j捜査½u THE MOVIE 2 ¡ãレインボーブリッジを«ÊÂêせよ¡I¡ã¡v[Bayside Breakdown: the Movie 2 - Protect the Rainbow Bridge], the Official English website does not list her as among the many cast members named in the movie, as such, she likely had a very minor appearance.
