什麼是上帝粒子

希格斯玻色子(英語:Higgs boson)是粒子物理學的標準模型所預言的一種基本粒子。標準模型預言了62種基本粒子,希格斯玻色子是最後一個有待被實驗完全證實的粒子。在標準模型里,希格斯玻色子非常重要,被認為是物質獲得質量的來源。希格斯玻色子是以物理學者彼得·希格斯命名,由於它難以尋覓又極為重要,因此在大眾傳媒中又被稱為「上帝粒子」。

以下是一些簡單解釋:
自然界中物體之間的交互作用,可以劃分為4種力:重力(重力)、電磁力、強交互作用、弱交互作用。在愛因斯坦相對論解決了重力問題後,人們開始嘗試建立統一的模型,以期解釋通過後3種力交互作用的所有粒子.
科學家們建立起被稱為標準模型的粒子物理學理論,它把基本粒子分成3大類:夸克、輕子與玻色子。標準模型的缺陷,就是該模型無法解釋物質質量的來源。
為了修補上述理論的缺陷,英國物理學家希格斯提出了希格斯場的存在,並進而預言了希格斯玻色子的存在。假設出的希格斯玻色子是物質的質量之源,是電子和夸克等形成質量的基礎。其他粒子在希格斯玻色子構成的場中,受其作用而產生慣性,最終才有了質量。之後所有的粒子在除重力外的另3種力的框架中交互作用,統一於標準模型之下。標準模型預言了62種基本粒子的存在,這些粒子基本都已被實驗所證實,而希格斯玻色子是最後一種未被發現的基本粒子。

全球物理界沸騰了。追尋將近半個世紀後,2012年7月4日,位於日內瓦的歐洲原子核能中心向全球宣佈,找到一種新亞原子粒子,這種粒子與之前預言構成質量的『上帝粒子』、即希格斯玻色子(可簡稱希格斯子)特徵『一致』。若最終確定此次發現的新亞原子粒子就是希格斯玻色子,那麼粒子物理學中缺失的重要一環將會填補,支撐現代物理學的奠基性理論標準模型距離將被驗證,萬物質量來源之謎或可解開。

歐洲原子核能中心(CERN)有著世界上最大的實驗裝置——大型強子對撞機(LHC),其橫跨法國和瑞士,這個長達28年之久,造價達幾十億歐元的龐大地下裝置,最主要的目的是為了尋找被稱為『上帝粒子』的希格斯玻色子。日內瓦昨日9時,歐洲原子核能中心透過網路向全球播放其最新進展的研討會。研討會上,兩座各自獨立的實驗室遞交了最新報告,均展示了一種新粒子存在的強有力證據。

CERN主席豪威爾說:『我們有了個「發現」……我們觀測到了一種新粒子,符合希格斯子的條件。不過到底是什麼粒子,問題仍待回答。』現場最重量級的是四個物理學理論家,其中三個人完善了標準模型理論,另一個人彼得·希格斯則創建了這個理論,標準模型中最後一個粒子以他命名。昨(7月4日)天台下就座的希格斯流下熱淚。發布會現場,英國物理學會主席彼得·奈特說,此次LHC的成就與發現DNA和登陸月球相當。利物浦大學粒子物理系主任瑟密斯·布考克則稱,對於物理學家來說,這次發現就像哥倫布發現美洲大陸。

在墨爾本觀看了視頻的中科院高能物理研究所院士陳和生則說,希格斯等距離諾貝爾獎不遠了。陳和生表示,目前還需要進一步確定發現的是希格斯玻色子。CERN現在打算全力以赴地在今(2012)年之前給出最終答案,明年大型強子對撞機就將進入兩年的大修期。根據計劃,此次研究的正式結果將在7月底在學術期刊上發表。陳和生表示,屆時,論文作者將是參與了所有兩個實驗專案的科學家,共3000多人,其中,也有六七十人是參與合作的中國科學家。
